Ponda: The residents of Opa-Nirankal have raised concerns about the condition of roads, which are being dug up by the Electricity Department for development works but are not being restored after the completion of the work. They emphasided the need for proper coordination between various departments to ensure timely restoration of the roads.

Specifically, they highlighted the Opa to Nirankal road, which was recently hotmixed in January, after a long period of neglect. However, this four-kilometre stretch of road has been dug up by the Electricity Department for laying underground 11 KV power lines.

While they appreciate the development works, they stressed the importance of proper planning for the timely restoration of roads.

Despite the completion of the work on laying power cables, the roads have not been restored, posing risks for vehicles, especially during the monsoon season. The residents expressed concern that half of the road being dug up could lead to accidents, particularly in the isolated areas and jungle regions where the road passes through.

They urged the authorities to prioritise the restoration of roads to ensure the safety of commuters.

Additionally, social worker Sandeep Parkar pointed out that the newly hotmixed road in Opa, completed in January, has been excavated for power cabling, further exacerbating the inconvenience faced by residents.
