Cars have fallen into the drains in the parking area at the Bambolim stadium adding to the tension of the parents already under pressure due to the traffic chaos at the Cujira integrated school complex

PANJIM: If the traffic chaos at the Cujira integrated school complex was not enough, open drains in the parking area at Bambolim stadium have added to the woes of the parents, some of whom found their cars stuck in it while dropping their children to schools.

Two vehicles recently fell in the open drain but fortunately no occupant was hurt. On closer look, it was found the slabs of the drainage system were damaged while the authorities have displayed a care-a-damn attitude towards its repair.

“I have been parking my car here for many months. It was just a few days ago when I came to drop my daughter to school, the front portion of my car fell in the open drain. I was told by many parents that the slabs were damaged for the past several days but no authority has got it repaired,” one of the affected parents complained.

An official at the Curca-Bambolim-Talaulim village panchayat also echoed the negligent attitude of the government has been posing danger not only to parents but students too. “After dropping my son to the school this week, I saw a crowd near the stadium’s parking area. A car had fallen in the drain. It’s really sad that the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) has not been replacing the broken slabs with new ones. It is a threat to both parents and students,” he said. Besides parents, some teaching and non-teaching staff also use this space to park their vehicles.

Herald tried to get in touch with the SAG officials but none were available for comment. A meeting of the Education and Traffic Department officials along with four schools located in the premise held last year, resolved to not allow parking of vehicles along the complex road.

The parking area at Bambolim stadium or at an open plot on the left side of the entrance of the complex were two alternate parking spaces allotted, in a bid to curb traffic congestion.
