PORVORIM: As announced earlier, the Opposition parties on Monday took the protests against coal from the streets to the floor of the Goa Legislative Assembly.

As Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari wound up his incomplete speech, the Opposition MLAs started slogans saying “aamka naka, aamka naka, goyant coal amka naka” holding placards and wearing black bands.

Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat criticised the Governor’s speech for there not being a single mention of coal and the Mollem issues. “It is unfortunate when there is unrest in entire Goa regarding coal and Mollem, the Governor decides to give it a miss,” he said.

He also demanded that the next month’s Budget session be a full-fledged session. “With short Assembly, how will the MLAs raise issues?” he asked, adding, “Last time we met only for five days, we demand a longer session to discuss crucial issues of Goa.”

Goa Forward Party president Vijai Sardesai said that the most important issue of coal handling in the State should have been brought up in Assembly and discussed. “We condemn this,” Sardesai said.

MGP leader Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar said that that the opposition MLAs had demanded five calling attention motions but only three have been put on record.
