PANJIM: With the formation of a new system along the Karnataka coast, the Orange colour warning that was valid till Thursday has been extended by a day to Friday with the Indian Meterological Department (IMD) warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the State.
An off shore trough at mean sea level that lies off the Karnataka and Kerala coasts is a fresh system that has developed and is working along with three other systems – a low pressure area over Saurashtra coast & neighbourhood now over coastal areas of Kutch , cyclonic circulation over South Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts. now over south Chhattisgarh & neighbourhood and East-west shear zone to intensify rainfall activities in Goa.
In the last 24 hours the State received almost 4.6 inches (117.1mm) of rainfall. Almost 13 inches of rains have been recorded in the last 72 hours.
IMD Goa observatory said that the Orange weather warning continues over Goa up till July 16. State will receive heavy rains till July 18.
Quepem recorded 160.8 mm of rains, Mapusa recording 157 mm of rainfall and Pernem reported 150 mm. Old Goa station recorded 130.6 mm of rainfall, while Margao reported 125 mm and Sanquelim 124.2 mm of rains. Valpoi saw 115.8 mm of showers while Panjim and Canacona recorded 109 mm and 108 mm of rains.
