PM to dedicate Mopa airport to the nation on Sunday

PANJIM: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Mopa International Airport at 5 pm on Sunday, December 11 even as the State BJP core committee has recommended that the new airport be named as Manohar Parrikar International Airport. 

According to information available, Modi will arrive at the new Mopa airport at 2:45 pm and then proceed to the Campal ground, Panjim in a helicopter to attend the concluding session of the World Ayurveda Congress. On the occasion, he will inaugurate in virtual mode AYUSH Hospital at Dhargalim and two other hospitals built across the country. 

The Prime Minister will then proceed to Mopa in a helicopter and dedicate the Mopa greenfiled airport to the nation at 5 pm.  

Before arriving in Goa, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway at Nagpur, it was informed.

Meanwhile, the State BJP core committee held a meeting on Saturday and recommended to the Government of India that the new Mopa airport be named after former Defence Minister and Goa’s ex-chief minister, late Manohar Parrikar.

In September this year, the first trial flight landed at the Mopa international airport when the Indigo Airlines aircraft which came from Mumbai, onboard Directorate General of Civil Aviation officials. 

GMR Goa International Airport Limited, a subsidiary of GMR Airports Limited, who has built the Mopa airport, had successfully completed RNP procedure for both approaches  of the newly built runway.
