MARGAO: The unending imbroglio of who maintains the Margao flyover led to complete ignorance by the relevant authorities towards the now old structure.

The District Road Safety Committee meeting here on Tuesday discussed the issues surrounding the safety of the Margao flyover and other roads in South. South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha criticised the PWD Roads Division for the condition of the roads in the district.

Sardinha sought a status report on action to remove potholes on the roads in the South Goa District. Sardinha and the Collector took the PWD Executive Engineer - XIV (National Highway) to task on this and sought a report by October 28. Executive Engineer Laxmikant Naik agreed to give a status report by Wednesday.

The issue of the Margao flyover maintenance, as part of disaster/risk-reduction/SENDAI/framework/KRC was discussed.

The District Collector has assured to seek a status report on the flyover from Konkan Railway Corporation and Executive Engineer or PWD National Highway. He said that the proposal for repair of the flyover has been sent to the Centre. Sardinha sought full details so that his office can follow up.

Stray cattle on the roads a long pending issue that

Herald had taken up was also discussed. A status report was subsequently required from seven talukas by GOACAN. The Collector said he will seek immediate intervention of the Director Panchayats and Municipal Administration on stray cattle issue.

The meeting was chaired by District Collector and attended by Margao Traffic Cell Police Inspector Gautam Salunke, GOACAN Secretary Lorna Fernandes and Additional Collector Surendra Naik.
