PONDA: Kundaim farmer Jagnath Naik on Monday complained to Ponda Mamlatdar and Kundaim Village Panchayat stating that his fertile paddy field is submerged under water for conducting fishing activities and that he can’t cultivate paddy crop.
In his complaint, Jagnath also demanded to clear the saline water from his field.
He mentioned that during the high tide the saline water level in the field reaches to the bandara damaging the coconut sampling and trees. The water also reaches to the doorsteps of the houses and pathway gets submerged under water.
“Due to field converted into a sluice gate for fishing activities I can’t take traditional paddy crop cultivation. I brought this issue to the notice of Manas Committee but no action has been taken so far,” he stated.
Farmers Association President Vijesh Naik said that he had already complained to the Mamlatdar. Some farmers, who have kept their fields fallow are allowing their fields to submerge under water for undertaking fishing activities, depriving the interested farmers to cultivate their paddy crop.
Meanwhile, following a complaint by a farmer to the Mamlatdar, the Talathi of VP Kundaim inspected the paddy field submerged under water on Monday. The Talathi will submit a report to the Mamlatdar.
Vijesh had demanded police protection to clear the saline water from the vast paddy fields at Kundaim.
