PANJIM: A Pakistani woman has been detained by Calangute Police for allegedly crossing into India – allegedly via the Nepal border – without valid documents.

The 27-year-old had entered the country while the world was reeling under the severe COVID-19 pandemic. Sources said she managed to sneak into Goa somewhere in May 2020 and rented a villa at Candolim. An Indian woman, hailing from Delhi is also under the scanner for she has been living with the illegal immigrant and had failed to inform the police about the latter.

“We are interrogating the Pakistani woman. The FRRO (Goa Police) is informed about the case and she is lodged in the detention centre,” said an official.

Calangute Police had raided the premises based on specific inputs, on Tuesday. With no documents to disclose her identity, the woman preferred to stay away from indulging in any work to earn her livelihood. However, the Delhi woman provided financial support by doing odd jobs.

“She will be deported once all the formalities are complete,” the official added.
