CANACONA: The holy pilgrimage walks by varkaris, also known as vari by the devotees of Lord Pandurang from Pandharpur, began from Cancona on Thursday, June 23.  The vari, after its 19 days journey, is set to reach its destination Pandharpur (Maharashtra) on Ashadi Ekadashi.

A special see off was arranged at Bhumipurush Pagi Samaj Hall, Palolem. Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar extended his best wishes to the devotees for a safe journey.

Cancona Chairperson Laxman Pagi, Congress General Secretary Janardan Bhandari, Block President Pralay Bhagat, BJP Mandal General Secretary Diwakar Pagi, Budwant Jiwesh Pagi were present on this occasion.

Speaker Tawadkar was welcomed by varkaris by applying holy tilak on his forehead.

Tawadkar while speaking on this occasion said, varakaris represent the whole of Cancona taluka, and are doing their duty towards their culture and religion. He wished the vari be enthusiastic and safe for the varkaris. He also accompanied the varkaris for a short walk.

The vari, that includes teenagers, senior citizens, walk their way to Pandharpur every year. This year 55 varkaris have participated in the vari.
