Panel appointed to inquire into  GMC interrupted oxygen supply

PANJIM: The State government on Thursday constituted a three-member committee to inquire into the issue of interrupted oxygen supply in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim.

The committee comprises IIT Director Dr B K Mishra as chairperson and former GMC Dean Dr V N Jindal as member and Secretary (Urban Development) Tariq Thomas as member and convenor of the committee.

The terms of reference for the committee are to ascertain adequacy of oxygen supply to GMC; ascertain efficiency of the oxygen supply chain; examine the process of administration of oxygen at GMC and give recommendations for its improvement and to recommend improvement in the complete chain of oxygen delivery at the GMC.

The committee has been asked to complete the task within next three days. Secretary (Health) is also directed to provide necessary support to the committee in timely completion of the task, states the order issued by Secretary (Revenue) and SEC and SDMA Member Secretary Sanjay Kumar.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that in order to bring in transparency and improvement into the system, the committee headed by IIT Director has been appointed to inquire into the oxygen supply issues at Goa Medical College.

Sawant also tweeted that the Government of India has made an additional allocation of 20 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen thereby raising the overall supply to 46 MT to Goa. 

Welcoming the decision to appoint a committee, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that it will help to continue the battle against Coronavirus. 

“In order to ascertain the issue of oxygen supply at @GoaGmc, the expert committee appointed by Hon’ble CM @DrPramodPSawant, is the need of the hour. I welcome this decision which will help us continue our battle against the virus,” he tweeted.
