PANJIM:  A 27-member expert committee under former State Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, constituted to examine the National Education Policy (NEP), has completed drafting roadmap for the State at the higher education level.

The Committee is expected to submit the report to the government, with recommendations to revamp the higher education in sync with NEP, in the first week of March.

The BJP-led government intends to implement the new NEP in Goa from the coming academic year.

The committee, which includes experts from the field of education, was constituted in September 2020, along with another committee under Shiroda MLA Subhash Shirodkar, to help government implement NEP at school education.

Sources informed that the Committee has drafted the final report and the same is likely to be submitted to the government, next week.

“Committee has looked into details as whether the NEP, in toto, with regards to higher education can be implemented in the State,” sources said.

The NEP makes sweeping reforms in school and higher education including teaching. Some of the biggest highlights of the NEP 2020 are, a single regulator for higher education institutions, multiple entry and exit options in degree courses, discontinuation of M Phil programmes, low stakes board exams and common entrance exams for universities.
