PANJIM: City Corporation corporator Rupesh Halankar has tendered his resignation as a member of Panjim Market Committee for failing to meet to discuss market issues.

In his resignation submitted to CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues, Halankar has expressed unhappiness towards civic body’s failure to hold market committee meetings, even as the crucial issue of signing of leave and licensing agreement with the legal vendors is still pending.

He said the committee has met only once since its formation for the new term in March, this year.

In June, another corporator and member Menino D’Cruz had resigned from the committee on similar grounds.

It’s been nearly seven years since N D Agarwal exposed the alleged city municipal market shops scam in 2013. The inquiry exposed that almost 95 per cent of shopkeepers are illegal occupants. However, down the line, CCP failed to sign agreements with the legal shop owners.
