PANJIM: While defending his tenure as the Mayor of Panjim, Uday Madkaikar called for better coordination with Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL).

Addressing media persons on Friday, Madkaikar gave a long list of achievements that the Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) had done, some of which, he claimed were the best in Goa.

However, while responding to questions on the issues CCP had with IPSCDL, Madkaikar admitted that there were some issues that needed clarity and that the next CCP council would have to look into them. This was in reference to CCP and Panjim MLA objecting to Smart City wanting to spend Rs 180 crores on installing a CCTV surveillance system. Pointing out that they had got Smart City to halt that work and instead concentrate on other works on priority, he admitted that Rs 60 crore had already been spent by Smart City for the CCTVS even though the public cannot see where and if these cameras have been installed.

He added that they only had one meeting with them, where they were informed about the initial work carried out like laying of cables etc.

Madkaikar said that major works in Ribandar, Panjim market etc are now being taken up by Smart City.

On other major projects that can help the capital city, Madkaikar revealed that the tender for the Bainguinum plant had been passed, which once operational will help the Tiswadi taluka as well.

He said Panjim is the cleanest area in Goa despite not having a garbage disposal site.
