Temporary RTO premises lack space

Officials say customers will have to bear with them for another two months till their old office is renovated

BASURI DESAI

For another two months people of Tiswadi and traders around the temporary office of Regional Transport Office (RTO) have to suffer due to lack of space for parking as well as for the movement of vehicles.

The RTO office has been temporarily shifted to the PWD office premises near old Patto bridge after their office at the KTC bus stand was gutted in fire last month.

Long queues of vehicles as well as motorcycles are seen outside the RTO at Patto causing traffic jams on the old Panjim-Margao route. Bikes are being parked at both sides of the small lane which is causing inconvenience to the commuters and local buses which are plying to Bambolim via St Cruz village.

The inconvenience is also caused to the visitors of the RTO office, as it becomes very difficult to find parking for two-wheelers. Coming with a four-wheeler to RTO office for any work, sources say, is not advisable in the absence of a parking place.

People have been seen parking the vehicles at EDC Patto plaza and walking into the RTO office.

The premises, which are made available for the RTO office, are also undersized, given the influx of people visiting the office.

Long queues were also noticed inside the RTO office premises which also hamper the movement of people due to lack of space.

A Senior officer of Transport Department said that people have to bear this hardship for few days. “We have tried our best to deliver the services to the people within four days even after a fire tragedy. We request the people to bear with us for some time,” said the senior officer.

Prabhakar Gupta, PWD Chief Engineer of Building division, informed Herald that the “work of repairs at the KTC Panjim RTO office is already commenced and it will take maximum two months.”
