PANJIM: In response to the abysmal ranking given to Panjim by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on quality of life, Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco stated in a press release that he is deeply saddened that Panjim is ranked 90th out of 111 cities. “Gone are the days when people used to stroll on the banks of Mandovi river which today has become nothing but a huge mass of concrete jungle”

Reginald complained about the crumbling infrastructure, the stinking garbage around the Municipal market, dilapidated KTC Bus terminus, lack of maintenance of public gardens and fountains.

“Panjim even lacks in other amenities like round the clock supply of drinking water and 24x7 power supply ”, he stated. He also pointed out that the MLA has failed to prevent the city  from flooding with just a few hours of heavy showers.

He demanded to know from Manohar Parrikar why Panjim fares as one of the worst cities in India. “Parrikar’s incorrect priorities such as privatisation of Miramar Residency for 99 years, his love for casinos in spite of them polluting the river and bringing miseries on the city, and even focus on unwanted and expensive Smart city project instead of providing quality of life to the people of Panjim have all led to Panjim losing its charm as an iconic heritage city.”, he informed Herald
