Panjim market to be given a facelift

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Friday announced that the Panjim market area will be given a facelift with the fish market and surrounding area given proper platforms, tiling, anti-flooding and hygiene maintenance measures.

PANJIM: Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) on Friday announced that the Panjim market area will be given a facelift with the fish market and surrounding area given proper platforms, tiling, anti-flooding and hygiene maintenance measures. 

The decision was taken by Mayor Vithal Chopdekar and former St Curz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate after they visited the Panjim market.

“Currently the market is in a mess and as a result flooding takes place. The related work is expected to start by March 27. Also slaughter area, fish cutting area will be made hygienic. In addition workers involved in cutting will be given aprons and a complaint box will be fixed in the market,” Monserrate said.

He said, “Anti-flooding measures will be adopted before the onset of the monsoon. Tiling, proper platforms and highest level of maintenance levels will be taken up.”

Chopdekar said that another round of inspections will take place after which the estimates will be prepared. “For the start, we will be sending our workers to clean the gutters and drains which have been choked. Cleanliness will also been taken care off. Currently the market complex is in shambles and every year during the monsoon there is flooding causing inconvenience to the citizens,” he said.
