Panjim police nab car  thieves from Solapur

PANJIM: Panjim police arrested two Maharashtra natives for assaulting a taxi driver and robbing his car from Solapur. 

On January 6, two unknown male accused persons posing as customers assaulted Antonio Rodrigues, a taxi driver, at around 2.15 am, near Vrindavan Hotel, Panjim, with slaps and fist blows and robbed his white colour Swift Dzire car from his possession. 

Following the incident, Antonio, immediately complaint to the Panjim Police Station and accordingly an FIR was registered against the accused person under Section 323, 392 read with 34. 

During the investigation, CCTV footage obtained captured the incident of crime. Later, all the inter-State intelligence sources were alerted and footage of the accused persons and car were circulated. 

Subsequently, information was received from the reliable sources from Solapur that one Maruti Suzuki Dzire white colour car without a number plate is moving in Solapur area and the said car is suspected to be the stolen from Panjim. 

A team headed by PSI Praful Giri was sent to Solapur, Maharashtra. With the assistance of Maharashtra police the team managed to arrest two accused namely Nikhil Vijay Shetty, 22, a native of Solapur, Maharashtra and Vaibhav Javheree, 23, from Ichalkaranji, Maharashtra. The police also recovered the stolen car from accused persons.   

Both the accused were produced before the court and remanded to three days police custody.

PI Nikhil Palekar and PSI Praful Giri with the help of Baptist Mascarenhas of CMC unit Porvorim, gathered the information and executed the arrest.
