MARGAO: The Nuvem People’s Biodiversity Register (PBR) was thoroughly discussed at the gram sabha meeting with the focus on how best to take it forward.

At the gram sabha meeting chaired by Sarpanch Freda D’Sa, the village’s Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) Chairman Jose Roque Andrade explained in great detail the advisory that had been prepared based on the Stage I validation of Nuvem’s PBR.

Andrade further asked for inputs from Gram Sabha members, especially for photographs of various types of mushrooms that are found in Nuvem.

Amacio Fernandes along with other members discussed the importance of PBR and how it is related to safeguarding the environment. In addition, the Sarpanch also said the tamarind sample will be distributed by the panchayat, which will help BMC to fulfil the requirement of Advisory and other important trees which are required to be grown and maintained to help the environment in our village.

In another matter, D’Sa mentioned that the charging/value of the Garbage tax per household needs to be discussed with the village’s Garbage Committee, before the same is finalised. A 'tinto' for fish sale was also proposed along with another proposal for a ‘Bagayadhar’ branch in Nuvem for the betterment of Nuvem farmers and residents.

Another discussion revolved around how after the accidents at Belloy, the damage at the site has still not been repaired. It was pointed out that during the accident walls (sancons) have been damaged, but the offenders don’t repair the damages to public property. To this the Sarpanch stated that the Panchayat will write to appropriate authority to do the needful.

Earlier, the panchayat secretary, Sunita Dessai read the minutes of the previous gram sabha meeting, and after deliberations, the minutes were confirmed.

The audit report for 2018-19 to 2021-22 was also discussed and confirmed by the gram sabha members.
