MARGAO: On International Workers Day, which is also known as Labour Day, Street Providence, an NGO, honoured several sanitary workers at Margao and appealed to the public to come forward to ensure that no one remains hungry. 

On Wednesday afternoon, the NGO distributed food to sanitary workers at Margao. 

Addressing mediapersons, the speakers said that this day needs to be celebrated in a grand way so that due respect is given to workers in all sectors. Workers in every field are seen working hard and due respect needs to be given to them. 

They stated that this is done to recognise the workers’ sacrifices on this day.  

Street Providence said that it is engaged in distributing food to the hungry on a daily basis. Actually, these workers need to be given their rights. There are several workers in the Margao Municipal Council working on contract basis for less salary, the speakers said and demanded that those working on contract basis be provided with all the facilities just like permanent workers in commercial establishments. 

Street Providence informed that it has been in this field for the past several years and added that it aims to ensure that no person on the street remains hungry. 

The NGO said that it collects distributes food to the needy on a regular basis.
