pernem: Pernem Deputy Collector Ravishankar Nipanikar initiated action against temporary and permanent structures violating Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms on the coastal belt of Pernem Taluka on Monday and Tuesday.

This was as per the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order to demolish temporary and permanent structures violating the CRZ norms and to bring the land to its original state.

At Tembwada-Morjim, the government machinery razed the illegal structures, which were erected in the No Development Zone.

Joint Mamlatdar Anant Malik informed that there is possibility of demolishing 37 structures in the Morjim belt.

Former Dy Morjim Sarpanch, Amit Shetgaonkar said, “Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people are jobless. Before taking the action, the authorities should have at least informed the local panchayat or concerned stakeholders about the demolition. Action is initiated while taking the stakeholders for granted who have paid licence fee for five years.”

Last year, the NGT had ordered to demolish 488 structures on the coastal belt of Pernem Taluka including structures within 200-metre of High Tide Line  of Morjim, Ashwem, Mandrem, Arambol and Querim Tiracol.

On November 10, an order was issued to demolish around 30 structures at Morjim and Ashwem but few stakeholders managed to remove their structures on their own after notices were served to them while others ignored. Later, while the demolition was ongoing, some stakeholders approached the court and temporary stay was put on the demolition on November 25.

The demolition team consisted of  Dy Collector Nipanikar,  Joint Mamlatdar Malik, Police personnel and other officials.
