PANJIM: Workers of Pfizer Pharmaceutical situated at Verna Industrial Estate held a demonstration on Wednesday morning in front of the Labour Commissioner’s office in Panjim to protest unfair labour practices followed by the company. They requested the Labour Commissioner to resolve the dispute immediately.

All the workers in the company formed a trade union initially under the banner of Gomantak Mazdoor Sangh and later joined Kamgarancho Ekvott (KE) as some existing benefits were being withdrawn. Pfizer reacted by suspending 11 local union office bearers and union activities and summarily terminated the services of four union office bearers.

The office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner, Margao has become a silent spectator to this industrial unrest at Pfizer,” said KE President Subhas Naik George.

The Deputy Labour Commissioner, Margao had intervened in the dispute with a view to resolve the same. “However, his office has become a silent spectator to this industrial unrest as Pfizer management has not been attending the office of the Commissioner for discussions saying that they would not like to discuss with the union,” said KE President Subhas Naik George.
