MARGAO: A complaint has been filed against the alleged reclamation work in the eco-sensitive estuary connecting the Moira River. The complaint was filed by Sarita Fernandes, Conservation Officer of the environmental NGO Vanashakti India based in Mumbai,

"Upon inspection, no board was seen in place or written permissions that could be produced by the persons constructing and dumping mud into the estuary", Fernandes stated in the complaint.

The complaint stated the mangroves along the estuary provide the necessary cover and protection to smooth coated otters and that the area comes under CRZ-I of the Coastal Regulation Zone notifications, 2011 and CRZ -I A of the Coastal Regulation Zone notifications of 2019. Otters have been included in the Schedule II, Part II provisions of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
