CANACONA: With many accidents reported due to dangerous driving mostly by inter-state luxury bus drivers, the Poinguinim locals on Tuesday stopped five such buses and warned the drivers against overspeeding while negotiating the curves and narrow roads of NH between Polem and Balli.

Poinguinim local Sandesh Paiginkar said, “These interstate bus drivers flout the traffic rules and drive recklessly while negotiating the sharp curves all along the NH from Polem to Balli. In the recent past, many locals have lost their lives due to the rash driving by these bus drivers and other speeding vehicles. We have threatened to take the law into our hands if they continue with such reckless driving."

Locals allege that the traffic police at the Polem gate allow these inter-state buses to transport goods thereby putting the lives of other commuters along the NH at risk.

When asked to comment on the allegations levelled by the locals, Canacona Traffic Cell assured that immediate action will be initiated.
