PANJIM: In the Scarlett Keeling alleged rape and murder case, the defence counsel has contended that Goa Police and the CBI has fabricated the evidences to frame the accused.

The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court is hearing the final arguments in the infamous 2008 alleged rape and murder case which had taken the media by storm with the international media highlighting the safety concerns of foreign tourists in Goa.

Presenting its arguments after the CBI counsel had completed his arguments, the defence counsel has contended that Goa Police and CBI has fabricated evidences and has improved the statements of the witnesses to frame the accused Samson D'Souza and Placido Carvalho.

The defence counsel has contended that there were other people too on the shack besides accused on the fateful night and that there is no convincing evidence relating accused Samson with the victim for the last time. He has further claimed that the whole case of prosecution is based upon an orange chappal allegedly to be of accused Samson.

He said that the chappal is ordinary and such chappal is easily available in local market and it was found about 4 meters away from the body of the victim. He further informed that Anjuna police did not attach the chappal and the CBI enhanced the statements of witnesses to link that chappal with the accused Samson.

The defence council is yet to complete the arguments and will continue on Tuesday.
