Police cracks down on illegal  IPL betting; two arrested

PERNEM: In a major crackdown on illicit activities, two persons engaged in an online cricket betting racket were arrested. During the keenly watched Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, the Goa Police conducted well-coordinated raids at Shirgal, Dhargalim, and Pernem. 

The operation, spearheaded by PI Rahul Parab and PSI Girish T Padloaskar, along with their team.

The raid was carried out between 9.10 pm and 11 pm on an undisclosed location, where the police team swooped in and nabbed the suspects. The accused were identified as Pratik and and Mihirbhai both aged 29 and natives Gujarat. During the raid, the police seized laptops, mobile phones, and other gambling material, collectively valued at approximately Rs 1.50 lakh. 

The investigation has revealed that the duo were part of a larger criminal network, with another prime accused  believed to be the mastermind behind the illegal betting operation. The Goa Police Crime Branch are now trying to trace and apprehend the mastermind.
