CUNCOLIML: Polita Carnero has been elected chairperson of Cuncolim Municipal Council in the special meeting held on at the municipal office, on Wednesday.The post of chairperson fell vacant after Lavita Mascarenhas was voted out in no-confidence motion.

Quepem Chief Officer Pramod Dessai presided over the meeting that elected Carnero as municipal chairperson. Three nominations were received for the election. However, Mascarenhas withdraw her nomination paper before the prescribed time, leaving Polita Carnero and Angela Paiginkar to face off. And of the twelve councillors, seven voted for Polita, while five favoured Paiginkar.
