VALPOI: Despite having a water treatment plant within the Poriem panchayat area, the villagers have been facing acute water shortage since past several years.

The villagers complained that their taps have been running dry since past many years. The PWD (water division) office at Valpoi has been supplying them water through tankers, which too is erratic.

“For the past many days we are facing the acute water shortage. Our taps are totally running dry. Water from the Podashe water treatment plant, which is in our panchayat, is reaching the Porvorim constituency and also some parts of Bardez taluka. But water from that plant is not reaching to our village taps,” a local Virendra Majik lamented.

“Close to our village, there is Goa Institute of Management College. This college taps are getting 24-hour water supply, but our village taps are running dry,” another villager Gurudas Gaonkar said.

“Every day we are facing the water shortage in our Tamidgi wada. We have complained several times to the Water Supply Department, Valpoi. But the officers are not bothered. They have not taken any action till now,” a local girl Asmita Rane said.
