VASCO: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said that the port town was like a mini India where people from different States and communities live in peace and harmony.

Sawant stated this after participating in the ‘Chhat Pooja’ festivities held at Baina beach on Sunday evening. He pointed out that ‘Chhat Pooja’ performed on the Baina beach over the years had increased the positivity of the area.

Sawant said, unlike earlier days, the ancient Hindu festival Chhatt Pooja is not restricted to North Indians but is now followed by many people across the country and it is symbolic of the fact that there is Unity in Diversity in India. Vasco is like mini India where people from different States and communities live in peace and harmony and participate in every festival together.

The Chief Minister expressed confidence that Baina beach will be popular tourist attraction and will become one of the famous beaches of the State on part with Calangute and Baga beaches.

Sawant said that ‘Chhat Pooja’ has great significance for its worship to the Sun and devotees immerse in waters and it is a difficult festival because people, especially women practice strict waterless fast for around 48 hours during this festival.

MLA Krishna ‘Daji’ Salkar, Mormugao Municipal Council chairperson Girish Borker, Chicalim Sarpanch Kamla Prasad Yadav and other dignitaries were present.
