PANJIM: The Porvorim Block Congress Committee President Shankar Phadte has attacked his own party MLAs for shielding Health Minister Vishwajit Rane over the issue of alleged scam in the purchase of ventilators and deaths of COVID-19 patients in the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim due to oxygen supply shortage.

Phadte said that it was shocking that the Opposition MLAs are protecting Rane while ruling party MLAs are demanding the resignation of the Health Minister for rising COVID-19 deaths in the GMC due to shortage of oxygen supply.

Taking serious note of deaths of COVID patients due to short supply of oxygen, the High Court of Bombay at Goa pointed out that the right to life is violated, he said.

Phadte alleged that the Sawant government has failed to handle the COVID-19 pandemic while the Opposition members has failed to demand the resignation of the Health Minister over the unhygienic food supplied to patients in GMC by the Sodexo and the purchase of 200 ventilators at a whopping price.

Ridiculing Rane for demanding an inquiry by the High Court into the deaths of COVID patients in the wee hours in the GMC, Phadte said that the Minister should have resigned first to pave way for an impartial inquiry.

Phadte further alleged that Porvorim MLA is making media statements for cheap publicity during COVID crisis and were trying to stop those helping the people during the pandemic.
