PANJIM: The daily COVID positivity rate in Goa witnessed a significant decline on Thursday, even as the virus-related fatalities continued to be on a higher side. In the last 24 hours, the positivity rate dropped to 35.16 per cent from 41.40 per cent, reported on Wednesday. However, the day also saw 63 patients losing their lives to the infection. 

As per the Health Bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services, the State’s recovery rate of COVID patients is also showing a steady improvement as it stood at 73.19 per cent on Thursday. 

Of the 7,084 tests conducted in the last 24 hours, 2,491 tested positive for COVID-19; while 2,266 

persons recovered. With this, the State’s active case tally stood at 32,953.

Asilo Hospital Mapusa recorded a maximum of 551 new patients, followed by 467 in Hospicio. Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) reported 136 new patients through RTPCR while 72 were found positive during turenat and 11 via antigen. The sub-district hospital also reported 208 new patients. 

As on Thursday, 1,30,130 people have tested positive for the virus of which 95,240 have recovered while 1,937 succumbed. 

Of the 2,266 recoveries, 201 were discharged from hospital while the rest were home isolation patients. 

While the daily positivity and recovery rate showed signs of improvement, the COVID mortalities continue to worry the State health authorities. Of the 63 deaths, 15 were reported in the wee hours of Thursday at GMC due to lack of oxygen supply.
