Power Minister will conduct inquiry into non-regularisation of contractual workers

PORVORIM: The State government has alleged an irregularity in the recruitment of C and D group employees reported during the tenure of then Power Minister Digambar Kamat. 

Present Power Minister Nilesh Cabral told the House on Wednesday that government will inquire into the missing file as it will unearth why a section of the daily/contractual workers were left out during their service regularization. He has also directed the Electricity Department to register a FIR. 

“In 2005-06, the then government had taken a cabinet decision to enroll 29 LDCs, sweepers, etc from the Goa Recruitment Society on six months contractual period. All were supposed to be regularized but seven were left out when in fact all had to be absorbed. The then Chief Minister should have done so. I am inquiring why the recruitment of some was not done when they too were working for nine years. The file is also missing. If it is not found, then I have directed the Chief Electrical Engineer to lodge an FIR,” he said. 

Congress legislator Luizinho Faleiro demanded that government appoint a House Committee to inquire into the missing file. 

Kamat then stood defending that he was not aware of any such recruitment. “I am not aware of it. The department officers carry out recruitments, not the ministers,” he shot back. 

Cabral’s remark was to a question by Kamat on why some line-helpers are not absorbed despite serving the department for many years. “Government should take sympathetic view and consider 349 line helpers and assistant line helpers, who are left out of regularization of service. They have served for 7-8 years and have the required experience to continue the work,” he said during the Question Hour.
