MARGAO: Alleging that the power minister and the government is playing political gimmick with regard to government jobs, Electricity Employees Union (Goa) on Tuesday warned of agitation if the Electricity Department fails to regularise the services of nearly 321 contract electricity lineman.

Addressing the media persons at Margao, Raju D Mangueshkar, General Secretary, of EEU, along with Carlos Faleiro, working president, Prasnna Utagi, and others appealed the government and all the concerned authorities to give justice to the contract line helpers in order to avoid needless agitation on the issue. The Union has further demanded to stop the recruitment.

"The government is doing a political gimmick, and creating political ground for the upcoming elections by announcing the government vacancies," said Raju.

He further said EEU is fighting with the government to regularise the contract lineman who are in service for the last 12 to 14 years in the Power Department. Neither the chief minister nor the power minister has heard the grievances.

"Knowing that there are nearly 321 contract linesmen waiting to get their services regularised, the department has advertised for the new vacancies. Our Union had raised the demands with the chief electrical engineer to regularise their services in the department. The workers risk their lives while working on live wires", said Raju.
