MARGAO:  The Additional District and Sessions Judge South Goa Vincent Silva on Thursday heard arguments in the Rs 4.52 crore power rebate scam involving former Power Minister, Mauvin Godinho, two industrial units and four others. The court later posted the matter for orders on June 30.

It is pertinent to note that the Crime Branch has filed a charge sheet regarding a corruption case against the accused. The case is also against the former chief electrical engineer who expired.

All accused in an application have pleaded to stop the proceedings and discharge them.

It may be recalled that Mauvin Godinho has moved application before trial court to stop the proceedings and discharge him.

Advocate Arun Bras de Sa appearing on behalf of Godinho  has contended that  there’s no provision in the Code of Criminal Procedure for reinvestigation in a case and charge sheet has been filed after reinvestigation and therefore prosecution cannot proceed with matter  and all are entitled for discharge.

Former Chief Electrical Engineer T Nagarajan had also moved the Court for his discharge in the case.

It may be recalled that the State government has strongly opposed Godinho’s plea for discharge in the case.
