PANJIM: In the first half of Tuesday, officials from the Power Department stated that 80 per cent of the restoration work had been completed.

While they added that efforts were underway to restore the remaining areas by Tuesday night, they said the entire restoration will be complete by Wednesday night.

Various places in North Goa like Mapusa, Pernem, Valpoi, some parts of Panjim, Chorao and other surrounding areas are amongst those still without power.

While Electricity Department officials reiterated that their staff has been working 24/7 to carry out the repair work, they estimated that the losses suffered by the department due to the damage caused by Cyclone Tauktae to be over Rs 25 crore. 

Power Department officials added that there has been damage to more than 1000 low tension poles, more than 100 11 KV poles, more than six 33 KV towers and more than 30 distribution transformers.

They further said that more than 500 transformers had developed faults, and kilometres of cables, and main units of the ring network have also developed faults.
