PANJIM: The private bus operators have criticised the proposed public private partnership (PPP) model for issuance of fitness certificates for vehicles.

The All Goa Private Bus Owners Association has called upon the stakeholders to oppose government’s move to partner with private firm for fitness certificate.

“During Congress’ regime, the same BJP (then in Opposition), would object to projects on PPP model. It would create a ruckus in the Legislative Assembly. But now while in the ruling, the same BJP is resorting to PPP model for executive works. We have learnt that Transport Department is resorting to PPP model for issuance of fitness certificates,” Association leader Sudip Tamhankar said while addressing a press conference in the city, on Tuesday.

He raised apprehensions that PPP model would work against the interest of all the transport stakeholders.

“It will not give us any benefit but instead PPP model is an attempt to finish us. The manual inspection of vehicles will be automated… We oppose this move and urge taxi operators, pilots, and all the others to join us in opposing PPP model of issuance of fitness certificates,” he added.

The Transport Department has not issued any statement in this regard as on Monday evening.
