Panjim: Cleanliness and beautification of St Inez nullah, health centre at Ribandar, underground cabling are some of the projects that would be taken up on priority under Smart City Mission.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday chaired the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) board meeting and reviewed all the projects undertaken so far. Necessary instructions have been issued to IPSCDL to ensure that people-centric projects are taken up on priority.
Speaking to media persons, Sawant said that this was the first meeting that he chaired on the request of local MLA Atanasio Monserrate. “I held a review of all the projects that are completed and those under progress,” he said.
Sawant said the MLA listed priority projects, which are to be taken up and accordingly directions have been issued to ensure that the work commences. “There are enough funds available with IPSCDL for smart city development,” he said.
Monserrate added that projects like cleanliness and beautification of St Inez creek, Ribandar Health Centre, underground cabling work, are to be taken on priority. “CM has reviewed all the projects. We are of the view that people’s work has to be done. The city needs to be developed,” he said.
The MLA said that he will ensure that his election manifesto is implemented.
Meanwhile, City Mayor Uday Madkaikar held a meeting with traffic police in the presence of Monserrate and Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues to discuss the parking woes at night due to influx of tourists.
During the meeting it was decided that the regular drive against the violations would be undertaken in the city at night. “Stringent fines will be imposed against those who park their vehicle in a no parking zone or on the footpath,” Madkaikar said.
CCP along with traffic police on Wednesday night conducted an extensive drive, during which 54 two-wheelers were towed and 17 four-wheelers were clamped. A total fine of Rs 28,000 was collected.
