MARGAO: Minister for Environment Aleixo Sequeira on Friday said he would discuss the  request from a group of people to hand over a part of Old Hospicio to start a medical centre under Caritas.

He said that a delegation had come to meet him with the request, and hence assured them that the issue would be brought to the notice of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take the final call.

It may be recalled that a recent request was made to continue charitable health care services.

A request has been put forward from the Church to hand over the custody of the old Hospicio (Hosipcio Do Sagrdo Coracao De Maria) to Holy Spirit Church, Margao.

In a letter to the Directorate of Health Services, the Church authority has requested custody of a portion of the old Hospicio, especially the area in the vicinity of the Chapel located inside the compound.

Church authorities have expressed plans to start a charitable clinic under Caritas. The Environment Minister further informed that repair works of public toilets and all other public amenities are in progress at South Goa Collectorate building.

"The repair works of toilets on the ground floor will be completed in the next one week. We had a meeting with PWD officials along with a concerned contractor recently," he stated.

He said the South Goa Collectorate building will be put in order, and Chief Minister Sawant is also monitoring the works.
