PANJIM: Crime Branch (CB) sleuths have arrested two persons for allegedly carrying out prostitution in Calangute. Amit Kumar Jha, a 34-year-old native of Bihar and Abdur Molla (24) were arrested from Candolim where they had come to deliver three girls to prospective customers for prostitution. PI Siddhant Shirodkar informed that the girls have been rescued and lodged at Protective Home, Merces.

In another raid, the CB sleuths seized boxes of illegal liquor worth Rs 10 lakh from Mapusa. The police, excise officials and the flying squads have been on a strict check across the State and the borders to ensure the model code of conduct in view of the Lok Sabha polls is not violated. Several cartons of liquor have been seized by different agencies since the enforcement of the code this month.

In yet another crackdown on the crime in the State, the CB has also been conducting raids on gambling dens with five raids conducted at different places in the last one week. A total of 13 persons were arrested and cash and gambling materials worth Rs 60,000 were seized.
