QUEPEM: The Quepem municipal market area has been bursting at the seams due to unplanned, illegal construction ever since the expansion of Quepem municipality in 1985.  The urgent civic needs are being ignored. Parking is a headache at Quepem due space constraint. Quepem’s vision of development has been lost in people’s priorities and interests for decades.

At least for now, their priority should be to identify the right places in and around the usual crowded areas for vehicle parking and bus stops. People say that the real responsibilities of the local MLA are being ignored in this agreement.

A local Vallabh Prabhudesai said, “The biggest downside in Quepem which is the crescent of four constituencies and the administrative headquarters of about 10 offices is that it is still deprived of basic parking facilities. The municipality needs to take a quick decision for the betterment of Quepem residents.”

Another local Angelista Da Costa said, “As far as I know, the Quepem municipality started operations in 1985, although 37 years have passed since then, a reasonable parking solution has not yet been arrived. This is a headache for the people who come to administrative headquarters for their work. A quick solution to this parking issue is needed at the earliest.”

Local businessman Avadhut Sukhtankar said, “The main problem with the parking lot is that the Quepem municipality does not have their own property. The land that is used for parking in Quepem market area is mostly private and also no seriousness is shown on the part of the concerned authorities to tackle or find solution to this problem.”

A local from Curchorem James Fernandes mentioned, “Quepem municipality has been neglecting parking facilities for many years now. In fact, this should have been given a priority because Quepem is the administrative headquarters. Due to non-availability of parking space, there is a tendency to park along the roadside, which can likely lead to accidents.
