Hits out at Modi for ‘lying to the nation’; says PM wants to remote control Goa from Delhi
MAPUSA: Making a strong pitch for the rejuvenated Congress in Goa, All India Congress Committee Vice-President Rahul Gandhi promised to weed out corruption from Goa. He also promised a people friendly government if voted to power.
Addressing a mega rally here, Gandhi continued his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which he had started after demonetisation, saying he has been lying to the entire nation. “Modiji bohot bolte hain, achha bolte hain par sunte nahin hai, (Modi talks and talks a lot but never listens to anyone),” he said.
He said the Prime Minister says he has eliminated corruption, but all of Goa knows the PM is lying. “Even the PM knows this. If there is one party which could eradicate corruption from Goa, it is Congress,” he added.
Taking a dig at BJP 2012 pre-poll promise of creating 50,000 jobs, he said, “They first promised to give 50,000 jobs but everyone knows that the BJP government didn’t give jobs to anyone. Then PM comes and says that they have developed the State,” Gandhi said, adding, “Aren’t they lying?”
Gandhi was also critical of BJP’s plan to get Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar back as Goa CM saying the BJP wants to appoint a dictator from Delhi to govern Goa.
“We won’t let that happen. Goa is functioning from a remote control in Delhi. If we return to power, we will bring power back in hands of Goans. Whatever you want, will happen under our leadership. We won’t give you any dictator,” Rahul said.
“Congress will always keep its doors open for the people of this State and will do everything as per the wishes of the people of Goa. I promise you that,” Gandhi said.
Congress is not ready for any compromise, will work properly and eliminate corruption from Goa, he said.
Gandhi also focused on BJP’s demonetisation scheme, due to which many suffered when they had to stand in queues to withdraw money. “Many daily wagers life’s were also affected due to demonetisation,” he said.
He said that one person, one organization, one way of thinking cannot run Goa. “If you want to take Goa ahead, you will have to listen to the voice of the youth, women, senior citizens, cross sections of society and it should be taken to the State Legislative Assembly. Goa should be run only after taking everyone into confidence,” he said.
Gandhi also said Congress is not going to compromise on the issue of corruption. “We will weed out corruption from Goa. I am happy to inform you that more than 60 percent of the faces which we have fielded are new and young,” he said. “We are giving you a clean sheet. We have not compromised. We have promised to give a clean government. We will give corruption-free government,” Gandhi said.
Gandhi said Modi is lying to Goans and questioned how the BJP government would give 50,000 jobs after making 10 standard as the minimum qualification for a government job.
Former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, addressing the rally, assured that the rules of minimum qualification of 10th pass will be scrapped once Congress is voted to power. He said it is a blunder by BJP which is complete injustice to the poor people of Goa.
