MARGAO: Finally, the Raia Village Panchayat on Saturday replaced the old CCTV camera with a high quality one near Sonsoddo garbage dump, road leading to Raia and Curtorim to nab the culprits dumping garbage along the roadside.

The panchayat is hoping to catch hold of the nuisance makers with the help of the CCTV camera.

Raia panch Mario D'Souza said an agency appointed by the panchayat on Saturday replaced the old CCTV camera with new one which is of high quality.

"This new CCTV camera has been fixed on a trial basis. We will revive the functioning of the camera and further decisions will be taken at the next executive meeting," he said.

He said the panchayat has planned to fix more cameras of high quality near the Sonsoddo dump yard in the Raia panchayat jurisdiction. This decision of replacing the CCTV cameras was taken after it was revealed that the old cameras were not able to capture the pictures due to their low quality, and hence the dumping of garbage at the roadside continued.

The dumping of garbage by the roadside leading to Raia and Curtorim has created nuisance at the site for years. Even chicken and medical waste was dumped on the roadside here.

The panchayat has noticed that culprits are dumping the garbage along the roadside mostly at night.

"We will have our next executive meeting in the next few days, wherein further steps pertaining to going ahead with high quality CCTV cameras will be discussed. The panchayat is very serious on resolving the issue," Mario added.
