Rail bridge height gauge knocked off, posing danger

CANACONA: A truck, carrying heavy machinery, hit the top portion of the height gauge of rail over bridge at Charrasta in Canacona on Friday. However, damaged heavy top beam poses danger to the pedestrians and motorists on the ever busy NH66 road since then.

Sources staying close to the rail bridge at Charrasta said that a truck carrying heavy earthmoving machinery hit the cross bar of the height gauge while proceeding towards Karwar on Friday.

The impact was such that the crossbeam and the support beam got separated and fell on the road.

“Luckily no one was passing on the road when the mishap occurred,” a local said. 

With another height gauge on the other side of the bridge to cross the truck was not able to pass and is stationed at the NH66 road at Charrasta side since then.
