To prepare a road map for solving garbage issues in her constituency
VASCO: Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha who had stayed away from the panchayat polls has said that she would extend full support and cooperation to all the panchayat bodies in making all five villages under Cortalim Constituency as model villages in Goa. She was reacting to an article in the Herald where the newly elected panchas from different panchayat bodies had shown their willingness to work with the local MLA for better development of their respective villages.
The villages that form Cortalim constituency include Cortalim, Quelossim, Cansaulim-Aorssim-Cuelim, Velsao-Pale-Issorcim and Sancoale.
“MLA and panchayat bodies working together form a network that functions together in order to serve the people of the constituency. I am very happy the panchayat bodies under Cortalim constituency have decided to work along with me. I think it’s a goal oriented thinking, because they (Panchayat bodies) must have realised that if they really want to take up developmental works at the village level or work for the people then the Panchayats have to be with the government and MLA is the representative of the government,” she said.
Saldanha further added: “Now I want to tell all the panchayat bodies that if they come and if they need my help to do something that is good and positive for the village and for the people of the village, then, I will always be there to assist them and to take up any project that they want in their respective wards.”
“As their MLA, I would like them to focus on the need of the ward, it could be road, proper drainage; it could even be need of certain infrastructures like market, community hall, playgrounds for youths, electrification, power needs ward or village wise etc. If there is scope for me to help them, definitely I will be there to help them and we would work together to ensure that these issues get resolved with needed infrastructures in place,” she assured.
Commenting on the garbage issue which all the villages under Cortalim constituency have been facing, Saldanha said, “With regards to major issue of garbage, I will call all the newly elected Panchayat bodies for a joint meeting to discuss how we can ensure there is cleanliness in the village and there is no garbage seen all along the roads. We will prepare a road map for measures to be taken to handle the garbage scientifically.”
