MARGAO: Konkani language agitation's first martyr Floriano Vaz was remembered on Wednesday on the occasion of his 58th birth anniversary by his relatives, and well wishers at the Gogol traffic junction.

Camilo Barretto, councillors of Margao Municipality and ST leader, demanded that Floriano Vaz should be remembered officially at the government level.

Relatives and few well wishers gathered at the Gogol traffic junction and paid tribute to the first Konkani martyr. They paid floral tributes to the martyr at his bust to mark the day.

Speaking to media, Camilo Barretto said, “Taking into consideration the contributions made by Floriano Vaz towards the Konkani language he should be remembered officially at the government level.”

"Floriano is an inspiration to many, and he is from the ST community, hence we have decided to fight for the rights of the community. We want the government to fill the black logs with regard to jobs, and promotions,'' he said.

Camilo further said that henceforth “they will not tolerate the political parties and leaders to use the ST community for the sake of winning elections.”

"Taking inspiration from Floriano Vaz, will see to it that justice is provided to the ST community in all fronts," said Camilo.
