SANGUEM: The traffic from remote areas of Sanguem was blocked for some time after the cyclonic winds accompanied by heavy rains led to uprooting of several trees across the main road.

The situation was all the more worst at Valkini Colony No 1 where several trees came crashing down on the main road causing major traffic problem.

Immediately after getting the information, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar accompanied by Sanguem Deputy Collector Ajay Gaude visited the affected villages and put the men and machinery to work for immediate clearance of the road.

At Nondurlem ward of Sanguem Municipality, an electricity pole collapsed putting the entire town into darkness.

The electricity department employees were seen working very hard to restore the power supply in the town area.

At Kalay, a large number of trees were uprooted putting normal life out of gear with electricity power supply also being severely affected.

In addition to the uprooting of trees, roof tiles and asbestos sheets of many houses were blown off making the people run shelter skelter to put things in order.

The cyclonic winds lasted for about 15 to 20 minutes in the taluka.
