VASCO: The Nationalist Congress Party has submitted a memorandum to the Mormugao Deputy Collector demanding reopening of MPT ground at Baina for the benefit of the sports lovers and players.

The NCP said that the MPT ground at Baina was for last several years kept open for the benefit of sports lovers and players and also was famous for football tournaments like the Bandodkar Trophy, Johnny Memorial Trophy and other football cricket sports, Ranji Trophy, school tournament and other activities like school sports all year round.

However, over the period of time, MPT in a planned manner stopped allotting the ground for sports and the hostel that was constructed is now allotted to the CISF manning the Dabolim international airport.

“The MPT has left the approach road to the ground and to the railway over bridge in a dilapidated condition making it unusable not only for the senior citizens who sneak into the ground for morning and evening walk, but even for the general cormuters and the school students who use the road. Since road is used by Local as short cut to the Vasco Market through Railway. It is reliably learnt that MPT now wants to convert the ground into a container yard to stack containers by depriving the sports lovers and enthusiasts,” the NCP alleged.
