Ponda:  The seven retrenched postmen met South Goa MP Francis Sardinha and later called on Curtorim MLA Alex Reginald to save their jobs.

Speaking to the media, Adv Surel Tilve said that the MP  assured to save the jobs of these seven postal employees and immediately called the India Post officials to keep the next recruitment on hold till he raises the raise issue with the Union Ministry and Parliament.

In the memorandum to the MP, the retrenched postal employees pointed out that they were serving at the Post Office at Ponda with utmost dedication and without any complaint from the locals as well as officials of the Postal Department for the last 18 years.

They claimed they were working on a daily wage basis over all these years hoping that one day their services would be regularised but were shocked to hear that they were relieved from the duty and seven Gramin Dakh Sevak ( GDS ) were appointed in their place.

“Today Goans have been left out and our jobs have been given to Maharashtrians. This is completely unfair. We are not against Maharashtrians but it is sad that today we have been replaced by people who have no knowledge of Konkani. Wasn’t there even one eligible candidate among us,” they asked and requested the MP to use his good office to put this demand before the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Government of India and to demand immediate withdrawal of the GDS / Postman appointed in Goa who are from outside the State of Goa and to reinstate their services immediately.
