Mapusa: The general body meeting of Mahajans of Shri Dev Bodgeshwar temple, Mapusa was adjourned on Sunday for the second time after Mahajans accused the temple's executive committee of mismanaging accounts, shady governance and not maintaining the minutes of the meetings.
Mahajans have now demanded to constitute a core committee to run the affairs of the temple.
Speaking to media persons, Shri Dev Bodgeshwar temple committee president Anand Bhaidkar said, "Some members raised a hue and cry over not sending them copy of the minutes of the previous meetings. I have been administering the management in the same manner the previous presidents worked. Those accusing me are the same people who did not follow the rules themselves. I have been accused of not maintaining the accounts from 2019 to 2022 which is not true. How am I responsible if the secretary has not written the minutes of previous meetings properly?”
The next general body meeting will now be held in October," he said.
Former temple committee president Adv Mahesh Rane alleged that the current committee was working in an indisciplined manner and had not maintained the minutes of previous meetings for the last three years.
“I am the temple's first president who had audited accounts of the temple. Having to adjourn the meeting of the Mahajans for a second time is an unfortunate incident in the temple's rich history. The executive committee did not take approval for the 2019-2022 budget. The signature of the treasurer on accounts is forged while the secretary's signature is missing. The exact amount that is mismanaged will be known only after the core committee's inquiry. In fact, I had filed a complaint with the Bardez Mamlatdar to call off this meeting," said Adv Rane.
