Rs 20 cr reserved to rebuild, refurbish Portuguese era temples

PANJIM: Dr Pramod Sawant-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has made Rs 20 crore provision in the State Budget to rebuild and refurbish the temples destroyed during the Portuguese rule. 

“There was a systematic plan during the Portuguese rule to destroy the temples and other cultural heritage of Goa. In the interest of tourism promotion, we need to rebuild and refurbish these structures,” Sawant said in his Budget while announcing budgetary allocation of Rs 20 crore. 

The Chief Minister announced government plan to frame a “Heritage Policy” for the State. 

“I also propose to conduct a structural audit of all protected monuments for the preparation

of restoration plans,” he said.

 A allocation of Rs 17.50 crore has been done for restoration and conservation works. 

A new Museum is proposed to come up at Ella village in Old Goa.
