Gram sabha says village already has places of worship for the leading religions and does not need more the same will lead to communal tension

MARGAO: The Rumdamoll Davorlim gram sabha unanimously resolved to ask the Goa Housing Board not to allot any plot of land to any religious trust henceforth as it would lead to communal tension in the village.

The around 62 villagers present noted that the village already has places of worship for the leading religions of the village and did not need more. They noted that a chapel, a masjid and a temple already exist in the village and argued that any other place of religious worship would cause communal tension.

The decision was taken following a disclosure that some trust from another State was seeking to get land from the Goa Housing Board.

Incidentally, six of the seven recently elected panchayat members were present for the gram sabha today with Mohamad Samiulla Faniband being the only panchayat member absent.

Incidentally though the notice stated that the Gram Sabha would be held at 10 am, only the panchayat staffers were present at that time with the Sarpanch Safiya Bi Shaikh coming in only at 10:15 am and justifying her late arrival stating that the gram sabha never commences before 10:30 am.

Even the Secretary Custodio Faria arrived after the Sarpanch and the gram sabha commenced at nearly 11 am.
